Ethakka tholi thoran (plantain skin thoran )


Usually we do not use the skin of ethakka or plantain .I got this recipe from Taste Of Kerala.Very simple and delicious.

Ingredients


1.Ethakka tholi/Skin of plantain - 2 no
2.Water - 1 1/2 glass
3.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
4.Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
5.Green chillies - 3 no (better use kanthari mulaku - 7 no)
6.Coconut grated - 1/2 cup
7.Cooked Cherupayar/green gram dal - 1/2 cup
8.Cumin seeds/jeerakam - 1/4 tsp
9.Curry leaves
10.Coconut oil - 2 tsp
11.Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
12.Red chillies - 2
13.Urad dal/uzhunnu parippu - 1 tsp
14.Salt

Preparation

1.Mince the ehtakka tholi in to fine pieces then put it in turmeric water other wise it will start decolourising .

2.Then in a pan add 1 1/2 cup of water turmeric powder ,red chilli powder and salt.To this add the drained ethakka tholi .Cover it with a lid and cook it .

3.Meanwhile crush the coconut with green chillies and jeerakam .

4.When the ethakka tholi become almost cooked add the previously cooked cherupayar to it and mix it well.

5.Then add the crushed coconut mixture and curry leaves to it.Check the salt and if needed add that also to it.

6.Add 1 tsp of raw coconut oil to it and mix it well.

7.Then in another pan heat the oil and splutter the mustard seeds ,red chillies ,curry leaves,and urad dal .When it is done pour this to the thoran.

Now the thoran is ready serve it with rice or kanji.
