Kabuli Chana Sundals - Dasara or Navarathri Special

As the Navarathri or Dasara is awaiting us it is the time to note Something about its special dishes.The name of the festival it self indicates that it is the festival celebrated in nine whole days .As the word "Nava " in sanskrit means nine and "Rathri " means night.The food speciality of these days is that different kinds sundals are prepared to celebrate Navarathri.Sundals are the south Indian recipies in which different kinds of chick peas ,butter beans ,dry beans etc are used .In simple way it is a kind of salad .First we do with chick peas which is known as "Kabuli Chana Sundals".

Ingredients for Chick peas Sundals/Kadalai Sundals


1.Chick peas /Kabuli Chana - 1 cup
2.Grated coconut - 3 tsp
3.Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
4.Urad dal/ Split Black gram/Uzhunnu Parippu - 1/2 tsp
5.Dry red chilly - 2 no
6.Curry leaves
7.Salt to taste
8.Oil - 2 tsp


Preparation Of Kabuli Chana Sundals


1.Soak the chick Peas overnight ,then in the morning cook the chick peas in pressure cooker for 3 to 4 whistle.Do not over cook the chick peas.Then drain the chick peas out.

2.Heat the oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds ,then add the urad dal, red chillies and few curry leaves to it.

3.When the urad dal starts to change its color i.e golden red in color add the cooked chic peas to it and toast it well.

4.Add salt and grated coconut to it and mix it well.Cook it for another 4 to 6 mts and then serve it hot.
