ASTRAM - an Onam special recipe



Astram

This is one among the nadan curries that we make during the festive season of Onam.It is regional and I don’t know wheather it is made all over kerala.

Ingredients needed to make Astram
1.Chembu/Colocasia-1/4 kg
2.Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
3.Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
4.Salt
5.Grated coconut- 1 cup
6.Jeera/cumin seed – a pinch
7.Shallot/kunjulli- 2 no
8.Curd – 2 tsp
9.Coconut oil- 2 tsp
10.Mustard seed – ½ tsp
11.Curry leaves
12.Whole red chilli – 2 no

How to prepare Astram

1.Mix the chembu,red chilli powder,turmeric powder.salt and enough water and cook it well.
2.Make a paste of coconut,jeera,kunjulli in a mixer grinder.
3.Add the grinded paste to the chembu and bring it to boil.
4.When it become cool add the curd to it.
5.In another pan heat the oil and splutter the mustard seed,red chillies and curry leaves and pour it to the chembu.
Now the astram is ready to be served………
