Chakka Varuthath (jackfruit chips) - Kerala Snacks

Jackfruit chips














This is summer season and now it is jackfruit season.There are a variety of jackfruit dishes.In my previous recipies i have already mentioned about chakka varattiyath,chakka uppery ,and chakka ada.These all are kerala special recipies.And the chakka varuthath is a snack item and especially children will like it.And summer season is holiday time for the school children so they will really enjoy it.We can store it in a air tight container for several months.

But it will be a great task if you are ready to clean the jackfruit and then remove its seed and outer skin of jack fruit.I clicked the photos during my servant cleaned it .As already i have mentioned in earlier post that my mother - in - law is a a great cook.She is the main in charge during this task.If somebody ask me to make it i will definitely refuse it because it is a tough task

Ingredients needed to make Chakka varuthath

1.Chakka/Jackfruit - 1 medium size
2.Salt water as needed
3.Oil as needed to fry the chips

How to prepare Jackfruit chips

1.Remove the outter skin of jackfruit and clean it .Take only its edible part.

2.Then cut it in to strips of medium thickness.

3.Next prepare the salt water and keep it aside.

4.Heat the oil and then add the jackfruit strips to it .When it become half cooked pour the salt water to it and cook it again.

5.Stir the chips in between so that the strips do not stick together.

6.When it become cooked well drain it out from the oil .

7.while it becomes cooled once store it in an air tight container.
