Water chestnut
During the Navrathri time in each and every north Indian home they will prepare Singhare Ka Halwa .But we Keralite are very much unaware about this Singhare or water chest nut.Singhare or Water chest nuts are plants that growing in water or marshes.The plant bear a fruit which contains a large starchy seed inside.These nuts are boiled ,peeled and ground to make the Singhare flour.We can eat the raw water chestnuts .
"Singhare ka Halwa" is prepared as a sweet on Hindu Fasting days like "Navrathri".
Ingredients For Singhare Ka Halwa
1.Singhare Ka Atta - 1 cup
2.Ghee - 4 to 5 tsp
3.Sugar - 1/2 cup
4.Water - 2 cup
Method Of Preparation For Making Singhare Ka Halwa
1.Heat 4 tsp ghee in a frying pan and then add the singhare ka atta to it .Saute the atta in ghee for 5 mts.
2.When the flour become roasted well add water and sugar to it.Make sure that no lumps should be formed.
3.Keep cooking it in low flame till it gets thick .Spread it on a greased plate or butter paper and make it in to shape using a spoon.
4.Allow it to cool and cut them in to square pieces.....
