Dhonepata Chicken (Coriander Chicken -Bengali Recipe)

It is a Bengali Chicken dish,which is prepared in lots of coriander leaves."Dhonepata" means "Coriander leaves" .I borrowed this recipe from "Bong Mom's Cookbook".I think she is the perfect source for Bengali recipies.This is my first Bengali recipe .

Ingredients For DhonePata Chicken


For Marination

1.Chicken - 1 to 1 1/2 kg
2.Ginger and garlic paste - 2 tsp
3.Lemon juice - 2 tsp
4.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
5.Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
6.Salt

For to make paste

1.Ginger and garlic paste - 2 tsp
2.Green chillies -5 no
3.Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
4.Water - 1 tsp

For to make gravy

1.Oil - 2 tsp
2.Onion sliced -6
3.Dry Red chillies - 2
4.Panch Phoron Powder ( spice blend) -1 tsp
5.Tomato -1
6.Cumin powder - 1 tsp
7.Coriander powder - 1 tsp
8.Chopped coriander leaves - 1/3 cup
9.Salt
10.Sugar - 1/2 tsp


How to make Dhonepata Chicken


1.Marinate the chicken pieces with ginger garlic paste,turmeric powder,coriander powder salt,and lemon juice.Keep it for 2 hours.

2.Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and then add broken red chillies and panchphoron powder to it.Then add sliced onions to it and saute it well .When it starts to become transculent add the sliced tomato to it.

3.Add sugar,coriander powder,and cumin powder to it and then add the grounded paste to it mix it well.Saute it again and then add the marinated chicken pieces to it.

4.Add salt to it and then cover the chicken with a lid and cook it.When the chicken become almost cooked add chopped coriander leaves to it.

It goes well with rice.............
