Puliyodharai (Tamarind rice)-Tamilnadu recipe


Puliyodharai is the tamarind rice which is often served during the any festival or functions in Tamilnadu.It is very easy to prepare with a simple recipe.

Ingredients needed to make Puliyodharai


1.Cooked rice - 2 cup
2.Tamarind - one lemon sized ball
3.Pea nuts - one hand full
4.Chana dal - 1 tsp
5.Urad dal - 1 tsp
6.Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
7.Dry red chillies - 10 no
8.Asafoetida - a pinch
9.Gingerly oil(Sesame oil) - 3 tsp
10.Curry leaves
11.Salt
12.Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
13.Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp
14.Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
15.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

How to make Puliyodharai


1.Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and then fry the sesame seeds,coriander seeds,fenugreek seeds and 8 red chillies .when it becomes fried well make coarse powder out of it.

2.Heat the oil and then fry the ground nuts in the oil and remove the skin of groundnuts.

3.Extract the thick tamarind pulp by using half cup of water and keep it aside.

4.In the same oil splutter the mustard seeds,2 dry red chillies ,chana dal , urad dal,asafoetida and curry leaves to it.

5.Then add little turmeric powder salt and tamarind pulp to it.

6.When the pulp begins to boil add the cooked rice along with the coarse powder.Mix it well and stir it till the water content evaporate from it.

7.Add the fried ground nut to it and mix it well.

It can be served alone with out any other side dishes......
