Nadan Mathi Curry -Kerala Recipe

Mathi(Chala or Saradine) with mango pieces ,this is a very delicious fish curry with traditional taste of cooking.

Ingredients needed to make nadan Mathi curry


1.Mathi (chala or saradine) - 500 gm
2.Mango - 1 medium size
3.Green chillies - 5
4.Ginger - 1 piece
5.Kunjulli (Shallots) - 8
6.Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
7.Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
8.Salt
9.Coconut grated - 1 cup
10.Fenugreek seeds (Uluva) - a pinch
11.Curry leaves
12.Coconut oil - 1 tsp
13.Chopped kunjulli - 2 tsp

How to make Nadan Mathi curry


1.Clean the fish really well and cut it in to pieces.

2.Use manchatti or earthen pot for making the fish curry .

3.To the fish add the mango pieces,green chillies,chopped ginger,kunjulli,salt,red chilly powder and turmeric powder.Add 1/2 cup of water to it and cook the fish.

4.Now grind the coconut really well.When the mango pieces become cooked well pour the grounded coconut to the curry and bring it to boil.

5.Heat the coconut oil and add the chopped kunjulli to it ,also add the fenugreek seeds and then add curry leaves to it.

6.Pour this to the curry and cover the curry immediately with a lid so that its smell remains with in that.

It will be a great combination with kappa or rice.............

Masala Varutharacha Meen Curry (meenum muringakolum )


This a typical Trivandram Style recipe.In which drumsticks are used in Fish curry.Thanks for Lakshmi nair to give such a beautiful recipe.

Ingredients

1.Fish - 1/2 kg
2.Thondan Mulaku /- 2 no
3.Drum stick/Muringakol - 1 no cut in to pieces
4. Raw Mango pieces -5 to 6 pieces

For the grounded paste

5.Coconut grated - 1 1/2 cup
6.Kunjulli/Small Shallots - 5
7.Coriander powder - 1 table spoon
8.Red chilli powder - 1 table spoon
9.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
10. Fried Fenugreek powder/ Fried Uluva powder - 1/4 tsp
11.Salt
12.Raw Coconut oil - 1 table spoon
13.Curry leaves
14.Water - 2 cup


Preparation

1.Heat a frying pan and saute the red chilli powder,turmeric powder, and coriander powder.Till it is fried well.

2.Then grind the coconut ,kujulli,along with thefried red chilli powder,turmeric powder,and coriander powder .Also add the fried uluva powder to it.

3.In a meen chatti or pan take the fish pieces,drumstick,grounded masala paste,salt,mango pieces,curry leaves,thondan mulaku and 2 cups of water.Mix it well with a spoon and cook it in high flame till it begins to boil and then reduce the flame and keep it in medium flame till everything is cooked well.

4.Turn off the fire and add 1 table spoon of coconut oil to the curry.

Serve it with rice..........

Kerala fish curry with coconut


Even fish curry can be made in different ways .This recipe goes with coconut gravy.This recipe is by my mom she makes fish curry with coconut gravy really tasteful.The photograph that i added here is also from her.Everybody likes moms cooking me too. For all mom lovers i dedicate this recipe.

Ingredients

1.Fish - 1/2 kg
2.Ginger chopped - 1 medium size
3.Garlic - 4 no
4.Green chillies - 3 or 4 sliced
5.Shallots /Kunjulli - 4 no
6.Tomato - 1 no
7.Coconut grated - 1 cup
8.Coriander powder - 1 tsp
9.Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
10.Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
11.Kokum/kodum puli - 2
12.Salt
13.Curry leaves
14.Oil - 1 tsp
15.Fenugreek seed - 1/2 tsp


Preparation

1. Grind the coconut with Shallots ,chilli powder,turmeric powder,coriander powder .

2.In a earthen pot or pan take the cleaned fish pieces to this add the grounded coconut paste,green chillies,curry leaves,ginger,garlic ,kokum,tomato and add little more water and salt to it and cook it in simmer for 10 mts.

3.When the fish is cooked in another pan heat the oil and splutter the fenugreek seed ,curry leaves ,add little chopped shallots and add this to the fish curry. Immediately close the curry with a lid so that its aroma should keep there.
