Arbi Fried - Navrathri Special Recipe


Arbi is a hindi word and in English it means Colocassia(Taro root) and in Malayalam it means Chembu.

Ingredients For Arbi Fried


1.Arbi (Taro root ) sliced - 3 cup
2.Ajwain seeds (carom seeds ) - 1 tsp
3.Red chilly powder -1/2 tsp
4.Coriander powder - 2 tsp
5.Turmeric powder -1/4tsp
6.Salt
7.Mango powder (Amchur Powder) - 1/2 tsp
8.Dry red chilly - 3 to 4
9.Oil - 3 tsp

How to Make Arbi Fried


1.Wash and peel the skin of taro root and then slice it in to thin pieces.

2.Heat the oil in a pan and add the ajwain seeds and red chillies to it.

3.After 3 or 4 seconds add the sliced taro roots to it .Then stir fry it for 5 mts.

4.Cover it with a lid and cook it till it becomes well cooked and soft .

5.Then add the salt,turmeric powder,coriander powder,mango powder and red chilly powder to it .

6.Stir and again fry it till the taro roots are well coated with masala.By this time the taro roots will be lightly crunchy.

Kotu Aloo Pakora - Navrathri Special Recipe

This is also the special recipe for Navrathri .

Ingredients For Kotu Aloo Pakora


1.Kotu ka Atta /Buck wheat Flour - 1 cup
2.Boiled potatoes (half cooked) - 3 no
3.Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
4.Coriander leaves chopped
5.Black salt /Kala Namak - 1/2 tsp
6.Oil for frying


How to make Kotu Aloo Pakora

1.Boil and peel the skin of potatoes and then cut it in to diagonal slices.

2.Mix the Buck wheat flour,pepper powder, saltand Coriander leaves and by adding water to it make it in to a fine batter.

3.Then cover it and keep it for 30 mts .

4.Heat the oil in a pan ,and now dip each potato slices in the batter and cover it fully with the batter.

5.Then fry each slices in hot oil till it becomes crispy and brown in color.

6.Serve it hot............

Sabudana Puri (Sago puri ) - Navrathri recipe

Ingredients for Sabudana Puri


1.Sabudana - 250 gm
2.Atta /Wheat flour - 1/4 cup
3.Boiled potatoes - 3
4.Red chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
5.Chopped green chilly - 2
6.Salt
7.Oil to fry


Method of Preparation Of Sabudana Puri


1.Soak the Sabudana for 1 hour.

2.Boil the potatoes peel its skin and mash it well.

3.Add the soaked sabudana,wheat flour,Salt,Green chilly,and red chilly powder to the mashed potatoes and mix it will.

4.Take little oil in your hands and then make round balls out of it.You can make it in to the shape of small puries using your hands.

5.Heat the oil in a pan and then deep fry the puries till it becomes golden brown in color.Then drain it out from the oil and serve hot.

Singhare Ke Pakore - Navratri Special recipies

Ingredients For Singhare Ke Pakore


1.Singhare Ke Atta - 1/2 cup
2.Small Squares of pumpkin - 10 -12
3.Potatoes - 2 no
4.Salt
5.Oil
6.Green Chillies chopped - 2


Method Of Preparation Of Singhare Ke Pakore


1.Mix the Singhare atta ,salt and green chillies in a bowl.And by adding water make it in to a fine paste.

2.Now dip each slice of potatoes and pumpkin in this batter .Heat the oil in a pan and deep fry the dipped pieces till it turns golden brown in color.

3.Drain the excess oil and serve it with chutney.........

Kele ki Barfi - Navrathri sweet


This is also one of the special sweet prepared during the time of Navrathri.

Ingredients For Kele ki Barfi


1.Ripe Banana - 4 no
2.Sugar - 2 cup
3.Milk -1 1/2 cup
4.Ghee - 2 tsp
5.Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
6.Crushed walnut - 1/2 cup


Method of Preparation Of Kele Ki Barfi


1.Peel the banana and mash them really well.Either use your hands or use a mixer.

2.Add milk to the banana and cook them in low flame till the milk dries up.

3.Add ghee to it and cook again till it changes it color to light brown.

4.Now add sugar ,grated coconut ,and crushed walnut to it and mix it well.

5.Turn off the fire and spread the barfi in a greased plate in 1/2 inch thickness.

6.Allow it to cool and cut them in to squares.....


Singhare ka Halwa (Water Chestnut Halwa) - Navrathri Special Recipe

During the Navrathri time in each and every north Indian home they will prepare Singhare Ka Halwa .But we Keralite are very much unaware about this Singhare or water chest nut.Singhare or Water chest nuts are plants that growing in water or marshes.The plant bear a fruit which contains a large starchy seed inside.These nuts are boiled ,peeled and ground to make the Singhare flour.We can eat the raw water chestnuts .



"Singhare ka Halwa" is prepared as a sweet on Hindu Fasting days like "Navrathri".


Ingredients For Singhare Ka Halwa


1.Singhare Ka Atta - 1 cup
2.Ghee - 4 to 5 tsp
3.Sugar - 1/2 cup
4.Water - 2 cup

Method Of Preparation For Making Singhare Ka Halwa

1.Heat 4 tsp ghee in a frying pan and then add the singhare ka atta to it .Saute the atta in ghee for 5 mts.

2.When the flour become roasted well add water and sugar to it.Make sure that no lumps should be formed.

3.Keep cooking it in low flame till it gets thick .Spread it on a greased plate or butter paper and make it in to shape using a spoon.

4.Allow it to cool and cut them in to square pieces.....

Kaddu Ka Raitha (Pumpkin raitha) - Navrathri special recipe


"Kaddu" means pumpkin ,and raitha is a dish made up of curd just like our salad.

This is also a special recipe for "Navrathri ".

Ingredients For Kaddu Ka Raitha

1.Kaddu (Pumpkin) - 1 cup
2.Green chilly - 3 to 5
3.Curd - 2 cup
4.Cumin seeds (jeera or jeerakam ) - 1 tsp
5.Salt or use black salt
6.Coriander leaves optional
7.Oil or Ghee - 1 tsp

Preparation of Kaddu Ka Raitha

1.Chop the pumpkin in to fine pieces.

2.Heat the ghee or oil and splutter cumin seeds in it.Then add green chillies and pumpkin pieces to it and saute it well.

3.When the pumpkin become cooked well turn off the fire and add salt to it.

4.Allow it to cool and then add the curd to it ,mix it well and garnish it with coriander leaves.

Serve it chilled ...........This will add more taste to it.

Kuttu Ki puri (Buckwheat Puri ) -Navrathri Special recipe


Kuttu (kootu ) ki puri is a very special navrathri recipe.The flour is made from buckwheat its seed is similar to our sunflower seed.On the fasting days of Navrathri in all northern states food items are prepared from kuttu ki atta.Because Hindus do not use cereals on fasting days and kuttu ki atta is not a cereal.The buckwheat flour is made from its seeds.


Ingredients for kuttu ki Puri

1.Kuttu Ka atta (Buckwheat flour) - 1 cup
2.Green chilly - 3 to 4
3.Potato - 1
4.Coriander leaves
5.Salt
6.Oil to fry the puri

Method for Preparation of Kuttu Ki Puri

1.Boil the Potato ,Peel the skin and mash it.

2.Add this potato to kuttu ka atta ,add salt ,green chilly ,coriander leaves and 1 tsp oil and knead it with your hand.

3.Add little water to it if needed.When the dough become ready make small round balls from it ,and make it in the form of puri.

4.Heat the oil in a frying pan and deep fry the puris till it become dark brown in color.

5.This puri will be crunchy than other puri .Serve it with aloo ki sabzi or chutney..........
