The most attractive tourist place in kerala.It is also situated in the Idukki district.The periyar national park is the main attraction of thekkady.WIth great scenic charm, rich bio diversity it satisfies the visitors needs.It is located in the banks of man made periyar lake.Here i will give some details about the tourist spot thekkady that will be helpful for the first time tourists.
1. Periyar wild life sanctury - It is sprawled over an area of 777 Sq. km,around the periyar lake which is of 26 Sq.km.The best time to visit it is between october and may.During the summer season when water gets low animals mainly elephants come down to the lake for water.There is also cruise rides on lake and elephant rides as well.There are 5 trips daily each trip lasting 2 hrs.
Timings -7 am, 9:30 am, 11:30 am, 2 pm & 4 pm.
For lower deck :Rs/75 Upper deck :Rs/ 100.for indian tourist.
Entry fee to Sanctuary
Entry fee for Indian tourist is Rs 15 and another Rs 10 per head for Eco – Development Surcharge. Entry fee is Rs 300 for foreign tourists.
2.Kumaly- It is around 4 k.m away from thekkady and considered as the major spice trade center.
3.Mangala devi temple-About 15 k.m away from thekkady, It is closed throughout the year except during the Chitra Pournami festival. At other times tourists can still view it by getting a special letter from the forest ranger.
