Nimmakaya Pulihora (Lemon Rice)

I have already written about lemon rice but this is a typical Andra recipe .Not that much different from our lemon rice.As we are adding lemon to it the rice will be sour ,spicy and it will produce water in your mouth.


1.Rice - 250 gm or 1 cup
2.Lemon - 2
3.Oil - 2 tsp
5.Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

For seasoning

1.Oil - 1 tsp
2.Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
3.Urad dal - 2 tsp
4.Chana dal/Bengal gram -2 tsp
5.Dry red chillies - 2
6.Pea nuts/Ground nuts -one hand full

7.Green chillies - 4 to 6


1.Wash the rice really well and cook it in the pressure cooker along with 1 1/2 glass of water,turmeric ,salt and oil.By 3 whistle rice will be cooked.

2.Now squeeze the lemon juice in to a bowl,and keep it aside.

3.Heat the oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds add urad dal,chana dal,dry red chillies,pea nuts ,green chilies to it and fry it till it becomes golden in color.Then add this seasoning to the rice also add the lemon juice to it and mix it well.

Now the nimmakaya pulihora is ready to be served...
