Machher Jhol Begali Fish Recipe

Machher jhol means fish curry in Bengali.Some where i read that most of the bengali dishes are with fish and mustard oil.

Ingredients For Machher Jhol

1.Fish - 4 no (Rohu)
2.Mustard Oil - 2 tsp
3.Onion chopped - 1 no
4.Ginger paste - 1 tsp
5.Potato peeled - 1 no
6.Cumin seeds/jeera - 1 tsp
7.Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
8.Red chilli powder -1/2 tsp
9.Kalonjii seeds - 1/2 tsp
10.Green chillies - 3
11.Coriander seeds - 1tsp
12.Salt as needed

How to make Machher Jhol

1.Wash the fish and then cut the fish in to pieces.Marinate the fish with turmeric powder and salt.And keep it for almost 15 mts.

2.Heat the oil in a pan and fry the fish in the oil till it turns light brown color.In some oil fry the potatoes also .

3.In a mixer grind the coriander seeds,cumin seeds ,turmeric powder,red chilli powder,ginger paste and salt.Add little water if needed.

4.In the same oil add the kalonji seeds then add the onion and green chillies to it.When the onions become translucent add the masala paste to it.Saute for 2 mts and then add the fried fish and potatoes to it.

5.Add little water to it and when the gravy starts to thicken turn off the fire.

Serve it with rice...................
