Meen Pathiri (steamed rice pancake filled with fish masala)





As always this recipe is also belongs to mu mother in law.I tasted it several times before but today first time i enjoyed it by preparing it .It is not that much easy recipe but still it looks simple.

You can use any kind of fish for the filling but avoid the sardine (mathi) fish.Here we took the ayala (mackerel).Before getting you bored lets go to the recipe part.



Ingredients needed to Make the Filling

    1.For the fish marinade

       a. Fish -7 to 10 medium slices
       b.Chilli powder -1 1/2 tsb
       c.Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
       d.Salt as needed
       e.Oil as needed to fry the fish

   2.For the fish masala

      a.Onion -5 no
      b.Garlic -1 1/2 tsp
      c.Ginger - 11/2 tsp
      d.Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
      e.Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
      f.Chilly powder -1 1/2 tsp
      g.Curry leaves
      h.Oil - 3 tsp
      i.Sliced Onion - 5 big no

3.For the Pathiri

     a.Rice flour -1 1/2 cup
     b.Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
     c.Coconut milk -as needed to mix the flour
     d.Salt as needed

How to make meen pathiri

1.In a jar mix the rice flour with coconut milk and add salt and fennel seeds.The batter should be in dosa batter consistency.
2.Now heat a kadai and pour oil to fry the marinated fishes.
3.After frying the fish remove the bones and skin and then shred the fish.
4.Heat oil in a kadai for the masala ,add fennel seeds,add ginger garlic paste curry leaves to it.
5.Add the sliced onions to it,and saute it well.Then add salt,turmeric powder,chilly powder to it.
6.When these ingredients are mixed well add the shred fishes in it.
Now the masala for the filling is ready.
7.Heat the steamer and pour one layer of rice flour batter to plate and steam it for 20 minutes.
8.when the layer is cooked well spread the fish masala on its top.
9.Now pour the rice flour batter on the top of fish masala.
10.And steam it again for another 20 mts.Now the meen pathiri is ready to be served.
Slice it and serve it..................
