Nilgiri Chicken - Lakshmi nair recipe


This is a green colored chicken curry .So that it is called the nilgiri chicken.The Nilgiri which is often referred to as the blue mountain in the south .Due its color it's color this dish is also called as the Nilgiri Chicken.

Ingredients


1.Chicken - 20 pieces
2.Oil -1 1/2 table spoon
3.Salt
4.Cashew nuts - 50 gm (optional)

Onion Masala

1. Onion - 3 no
2.Ginger - 1 1/2 table spoon
3.Garlic - 1 1/2 table spoon
4.Coriander powder - 1 1/2 table spoon
5.Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
6.Green chillies - 2
7.Water - 1 1/2 cup

Green masala

1.Coriander leaves - 200 gm
2.Pudina leaves/Mint leaves - 100 gm
3.Curry leaves
4.Ginger - 1 big piece
5.Garlic - 8 to 10
6.Green chillies - 10
7.Cinnamon - 2 piece
8.Cardamom - 4
9.Cloves -4
10.Fennel seeds/perum jeerakam - 1 1/2 tsp
11.Pepper - 1 tsp

Preparation for onion gravy

1. We are cooking the onions in water,so in a heavy bottom pan add onion,green chillies,ginger,garlic,coriander powder,red chilli powder,salt,water and cook it till all the ingredients become cooked well.Then grind it in to a fine paste.

2.Then add the chicken pieces in to this grounded masala and cook the chicken in it.


Preparation of the green gravy



1.Ground the coriander leaves,mint leaves,green chillies,ginger,garlic,cinnamon,cardamom,fennel seeds,cloves,pepper ,curry leaves in a blender.

2.In another pan heat 1 1/2 oil and add the green masala paste to it and saute it well.Add curry leaves to it and cook the green masala paste really well till its raw smell gone.

3.When it is done add the cooked chicken to it and mix it well .And cook it for another 10 mts.

4.Add the cashew paste to it and cook it for another 5 mts.Now it is ready to be served...
