Pathar Mangshor Jhol - Bengali Mutton Curry

In Bengali "Mangshor" means "mutton or Lamb" and "Jhol" means is" a kind of stew".

Ingredients For Marination

1.Mutton - 1 kg
2.Mustard oil - 1 table spoon
3.Ginger and garlic paste - 2 tsp
4.Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
5. Chopped Green chillies - 4
6.Curd - 1/2 cup
7.Red chilly powder - 1/2 tsp

Ingredients For Gravy

1.Onion Sliced - 4
2.Mustard oil - 1/4 cup
3.Potatoes - 2 no
4.Bay leaf -2
5.Coriander powder - 2 tsp
6.Garam masala - 1 tsp
7.Cumin powder - 1 tsp
8.Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
9.Salt
10.Chopped coriander leaves
11.Lemon juice - 1 tsp
12.Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
13.Tomato chopped - 2

How to make Pathar Mangshor Jhol - Bengali Mutton Curry


1.Marinate the Mutton pieces with ginger garlic paste ,salt ,curd,chopped green chillies ,red chilli powder,turmeric powder and mustard oil .And keep it for 3 to 4 hours or overnight that will add more taste to the curry.

2.Heat the oil in a heavy bottom pan and then add the red chillies and bay leaf to it and saute it well.When the nice aroma starts to come out add the sliced onion to it and saute it well.

3.When the onions become transculant add ginger and garlic paste to it and saute it well.Then add the chopped tomatoes to it and saute it again.Add the red chilly powder,coriander powder,garam masala powder to it and saute it again.

4.Then add the marinated mutton to it and and mix it well with the masala .Add little water to it and cook the mutton really well.

5.Peel the skin of potatoes and then add little salt and turmeric powder to it and in a frying pan saute the potatoes till golden color.

6.In menwhlie add the potatoes to the mutton curry and cook it along with the mutton.

7.Add water as you needed and cook it covered .When the mutton is almost ready add the chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice to it and serve it hot........
